Nine Jaamat leaders including Golam Parwar placed in four-day remand

Dhaka, September 8: A court has placed nine people, including Jamaat-e-Islami secretary general Mia Golam Parwar, in a four-day remand in a case filed under the anti-terrorism law. The other accused remanded are Jamaat-e-Islami's Assistant Secretary General Hamidur Rahman Azad, Rafiqul Islam Khan, Executive Council members Izzat Ullah, Mubarak Hossain, Abdur Rob, former Chhatra Shibir president Yasin Arafat, Jamaat activists Monirul Islam and Abdul Kalam.

Police produced them in the Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate's Court on Tuesday (September 7). Sub-inspector of Bhatara police station Aminul Islam then applied for remand for 10 days for proper investigation of the case filed under the anti-terrorism law. After the hearing, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Begum Mahmuda Akhter granted remand to each of them for four days.

Earlier on Monday night, police filed a case against nine people, including Jamaat-e-Islami secretary general Mia Golam Parwar, under the anti-terrorism law at Bhatara police station. Many have been made anonymous accused in the case. Earlier on Monday, police arrested them from Bashundhara residential area of ​​the capital.

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Gulshan Division Deputy Commissioner (DC) Mohammad Asaduzzaman said, "The arrested Jamaat leaders met in a secret meeting at a house in Bashundhara residential area. At the meeting, they were indulging in sedition and planning an attack. We arrested them after learning about the secret meeting."

"We confiscated some books as evidence of their sedition plans," he said. "Their interrogation is going on. When questioned, they could not give a satisfactory answer as to why they had met. We are of the opinion that the conspiracy and sabotage against the state were planned for the purpose. It was their secret meeting to carry out sedition."
