Dhaka, August 10: Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) has increased the bus fare due to fuel price hike. However, passengers are complaining of charging more than the fixed fare. BRTA is conducting an operation to stop the collection of excess fare. Dhaka Road Transport Owners Association has formed nine vigilance teams with them to monitor irregularities.

This team was formed in an emergency meeting of the organization on August 8. From Wednesday (August 10), the team has officially started monitoring all types of irregularities with BRTA magistrates.

This information was informed in a press release signed by Samdani Khandkar, office secretary of Dhaka Road Transport Owners Association. It is said that the general secretary of the association, Khandkar Enayet Ullah, presided over the emergency meeting. Chairman and MDs of 120 transport companies of Dhaka were present in the meeting. Besides, the president and general secretaries of all route owners associations also participated in the meeting.

Several decisions were taken in the meeting. One of them is - charging fares according to the BRTA list, not charging extra fares, hanging the fare list in a visible place on all vehicles.

Besides, there will be no slabs on the waybills of vehicles plying on Dhaka city and suburban routes, there will be no checkers on the road, and the vehicle doors will be closed from one stop to another. Stopping instructions are also given according to the route permit stop.

The Dhaka Road Transport Owners Association also said that the vigilance team will continue until the collection of excess fare is stopped.
