No irregularities in Faridpur polls: CEC

Dhaka, November 5: Chief Election Commissioner Kazi Habibul Awal has expressed satisfaction that there were no irregularities in the by-elections in Faridpur-2 constituency. Along with this, he wants to take a decision on the whole report after receiving the 'one third' investigation report of the Gaibandha irregularity. The CEC said this to reporters at the CC camera monitoring center at the Agargaon election building in the capital on Saturday (November 5).

The by-election of Faridpur-2 seat is going on from 8 am. Voting in EVM till 4 pm. In addition to local monitoring, the CEC and other election commissioners are watching the vote in 1052 CC cameras in all the centers and polling booths of this seat.

In the afternoon, CEC Kazi Habibul Awal expressed his satisfaction to the reporters and said, "I don't see any irregularity at all. The Faridpur by-election is going on very peacefully. However, the voter turnout is relatively low. As we expected, I saw the polling on the CC cameras. It is a positive thing on the CC cameras. There are aspects. Voting on CC cameras is a new addition."

In response to a question, the CEC said it would take another 7-10 days to complete the investigation report and take a decision on the Gaibandha by-election. He said that they have received the investigation report of 51 centers, the previous committee has been asked to submit the investigation report of the remaining 94 centers within a week.

The investigation report has come to us. The commission was busy with the meeting. On Saturday we saw the reports. Not commenting on the report. Kazi Habibul Awal mentioned that the investigation committee will also monitor the situation of the remaining 94 polling stations and give a report.

The CEC said, "The investigation committee will look at the CCTV footage and submit a monitoring report to us. One week time has been given for this. If the previous committee reports within seven days, we can take a coordinated decision on total gaibandha."

Assuring disciplinary action, the CEC said, "Wait a little. It will take 7-10 days. I have received the partial report, the full investigation report is required."

He said that the investigation report of irregularities in 51 centers of Gaibandha is in the hands of EC. The commission has also asked the remaining 94 centers to give observation reports after looking at the CC cameras.
