Dhaka, June 28: Unlike other restriction periods, the government will not issue any movement pass during the hard lockdown which will be imposed across the country from 6 am on July 1 till 12 am on July 8.

Citizens will not be allowed to come out of the house.

Police, Army and the BGB will be used to impose the lockdown and government directives. Cabinet Secretary Khandaker Anwarul Islam made the remarks at a press briefing at a cabinet meeting at the Secretariat on Monday (June 28).

Asked if everything will be closed from July 1, he said, "We are going to have a strict view on the coronavirus situation from 6 am on July 1 till 12 midnight on July 7. We reviewed the four districts in detail via video conferencing. Divisional Commissioners, DCs, DIGs, SPs, Civil Surgeons, Directors, People's Representatives, Mayors, Upazila Chairmen were all present there. Everyone's speeches and graphic presentations show that a large part of the country is turning orange, red or brown. So there is no way but to impose restrictions."

"For some practical reason we are not able to do so (impose hard lockdown) until June 30. That is why we are going for strict restriction from the 1st (of July)," the Cabinet Secretary added.

Asked about poor people during the lockdown, Khandaker Anwarul said, "The state minister for disaster management has been clearly instructed in today's cabinet meeting to chalk-out a program like last year. Problems arise especially in urban areas, so they have to plan accordingly."

Asked what the implementation strategy would be, he said, "We had a meeting with the Home Minister day before yesterday. If not tomorrow, we will give you the details the day after."

"The Army, BGB, Battalion Police will all be on patrol. They have been given the authority to take necessary action. They have been instructed that in no way can people break the lockdown in mass. They will monitor that," Anwarul Islam added.

He also said that a notification will be issued on Tuesday detailing the hard lockdown.

Asked whether rickshaws or factories would remain open, he said, "We will come out with the order tomorrow."

"This time there will be no movement pass. No one can get out, frankly. Those involved in emergency work will be allowed to go out. Burial-cremation work will be allowed. People will be allowed to go to the hospital with any patient," he added.
