One killed, seven burnt in Chittagong short circuit fire

Dhaka, November 9: Nine people were burnt in a short-circuit fire at a building in Chittagong city's Akbarshah police station's North Kattli on Monday midnight. One of them died at the hospital and two are in critical condition. They were admitted to Chittagong Medical College (CMC) Hospital.

Agrabad Fire Station Officer Kafil Uddin said, "The accident happened due to a short circuit, not a gas cylinder. We went to the scene and found this sign. Sparks have happened at many points in that flat."

The deceased has been identified as Peyari Begum, 65, of Chittagong. She came from Noakhali to visit hes son's house.

She died at the ICU of the burn unit of Chittagong Medical College (CMC) Hospital around 12:30 pm on Monday. The condition of seven more of the burn victims is critical.

CMC Hospital burn unit doctor Dr. Rafiq Uddin Ahmed said, ‘One person died in the fire. Except for one of the remaining eight, seven are in critical condition. The breathing pipe of all these seven people have been burnt. Six of the burn victims are being taken to Dhaka for treatment. The other two are undergoing treatment at Chittagong Medical College (CMC) Hospital. One was released because he was safe.

Director of CMC Hospital Brigadier General SM Humayun Kabir told the media on Monday (November 9) at noon. He said this while visiting the burn unit of CMC Hospital to see the burn victims.

The injured have been identified as Mizanur Rahman (42), Saiful Islam (25), Bibi Sultana (38), Manha (2), Maher (8), Peyari Begum (65), Sumaiya (18), Riazul Islam (22) and Salma Jahan (21).

The first seven of them are members of the same family. Among them Peyari Begum died. And Riazul-Salma couple used to live in that house.
