One week lockdown in Chapainawabganj due to increased Covid-19 infection

Dhaka, May 24: A one-week lockdown has been declared in Chapainawabganj with 11-point instructions due to the increase in coronavirus infection. Deputy Commissioner Md Manjurul Hafeez made the announcement at a press briefing at the conference room of the deputy commissioner's office on Monday (May 24).

The deputy commissioner said, "Recently, there is an upward trend of corona infection in Chapainawabganj district. Observations over the past week have shown that the corona infection rate in the district is more than 50 percent. Besides, proper quarantine of Bangladeshis coming from India through Sonamasjid land port has been ensured but there is a danger of spreading Indian style."

He further said, "As the situation is deteriorating, the lockdown has been announced following the unanimous decision of the District Corona Prevention Committee and the advice of health experts to keep the people safe and secure as per the directions of the Cabinet Department. At this time all kinds of vehicles, shops and markets will be closed."

Meanwhile, in the last 24 hours in Chapainawabganj, 59 people has been identified as Covid-19 positive in the sample test of 95 people. Of these, 49 are in Chapainawabganj Sadar, three in Shibganj, six in Gomostapur and one in Bholahat.

Dr. Zahid Nazrul Chowdhury, Civil Surgeon of Chapainawabganj has confirmed the matter. He said corona sufferers have been receiving treatment at their homes since Monday morning as they have no symptoms. Meanwhile, 19 patients are undergoing treatment in the corona ward of the district's 250-bed hospital. Besides, 1,018 people affected by corona have recovered and returned home and 25 have died.
