Over 80 percent beds lying empty in Covid hospitals

Dhaka, October 28: About 80 percent of the Covid dedicated beds in Bangladeshi hospitals are lying empty. The total number of beds in the country is 12,294, including 11,730 in general and 564 in ICU. Out of the total beds, there are currently 2,365 patients in general beds and 273 in ICUs.

As such, there are 9,365 empty beds in ordinary beds and 291 empty beds in ICUs. In other words, about 80 percent of the beds are empty, an official press release notified.

It said there are 3,519 general beds and 314 beds in ICUs in 19 government and private Covid hospitals in the capital. At present, there are 1,719 patients in general beds and 175 patients in ICUs, i.e. 1,780 in general beds and 139 in ICUs.

Besides, there are 825 general and 39 ICU beds in 10 government and private Covid hospitals in Chittagong. At present there are 109 general and 15 ICU patients admitted, ie 716 in general beds and 24 in ICU beds.

There are 7,386 general beds and 211 ICU beds in other parts of the country. At present, there are 517 admissions in general beds and 83 in ICUs. In other words, there are 6,869 vacancies in the general bed and 128 vacancies in the ICU.
