Dhaka, April 16: After the coronavirus spread in Bangladesh, more than a hundred members of parliament have been infected in the country. Four lawmakers of the current parliament have died. Awami League presidium member, Comilla-5 MP and former minister Abdul Matin Khasru, who fought a month-long battle with coronavirus, died on Wednesday. Mahmud Us Samad Chowdhury of Sylhet-3 constituency died last month during the second wave of the pandemic.

Earlier last year, former health minister Mohammad Nasim of Sirajganj-1 and Israfil Alam of Naogaon-6 died. State Minister for Technocrat Quota Sheikh Muhammad Abdullah died at that time.

The first case of coronavirus was detected in Bangladesh on March 8 last year; It crossed 6 lakh on April 1. One lakh more people were infected in 16 days.

In the last two months, several MPs have been infected with the coronavirus in the second wave of Covid-19. Many of them became infected after receiving the first dose of the vaccine.

A search of the Parliamentary Secretariat's medical center revealed that some members of parliament had contracted the coronavirus but had no symptoms. Due to attending the just concluded parliamentary session, following the instructions of the Parliament Secretariat, it was reported that many people tested positive for Covid-19.

In all, about 111 members of parliament have been infected with the coronavirus so far, according to medical centers and media reports. At least 34 members of parliament have been affected by the ongoing second wave.

Fazle Hossain Badshah, general secretary of Rajshahi-2 MP and Workers Party, has contracted coronavirus after receiving the second dose of vaccine. The coronavirus test came positive on April 14. On April 8, he had taken the second dose of the vaccine.

Earlier on April 9, Abul Kalam Md. Ahsanul Haque Chowdhury of Rangpur-2 constituency tested positive for coronavirus. Benazir Ahmed of Dhaka-20 constituency was infected on April 8, 48 days after receiving the first dose of vaccine.

On April 7, Mamunur Rashid Kiran of Noakhali-3 constituency tested positive. On April 6, Asim Kumar Ukil, a Member of Parliament from Netrokona-3 constituency, was admitted to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University in the capital.
