Own Correspondent, Dhaka, July 22: Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Habibul Awal said that free and participatory national elections are inevitable in the interest of the nation. Our efforts to that goal continue and will continue.

He made this comment in a dialogue with the Bangladesh Jatiya Party at the Election Commission Building in Agargaon of the capital on Thursday (July 21).

The Election Commission (EC) is holding a series of dialogues with the registered political parties ahead of the 12th National Election. In continuation of this, Bangladesh National Party is sitting in EC dialogue today. The EC is in continuous dialogue with the 39 political parties registered with the Election Commission.

The Chief Election Commissioner said that several phases of the dialogue have ended. We are reiterating the participation of political parties in elections. We have repeatedly requested all political parties to participate in the elections.

Kazi Habibul Awal said that competition is necessary in elections. A balance is established in elections with the active participation of parties and opponents. By doing this, possible irregularities, rigging, corruption, influence of financial power and muscle power can be controlled to a large extent. We sincerely believe that.

On this day, a delegation of 13 members participated in the dialogue under the leadership of Professor Dr. MA Mukit, chairman of Bangladesh National Party. Besides, four other election commissioners along with senior officers of the commission participated in the dialogue with the CEC.

This ongoing dialogue which started on July 17 will continue till July 31. There will be dialogue with four parties almost every day. However, on the day of dialogue with BNP, the EC was supposed to sit with the three parties. BNP did not come even though the Bangladesh Democratic Party and Bangladesh National Awami Party sat for a dialogue on Wednesday.

The Jatiya Party and Bangladesh Awami League will sit with the EC on the last day of the dialogue, i.e. July 31. There will be a dialogue with the two parties on that day.
