Own Correspondent, Dhaka, February 5: During the Awami League regime, people of all religions and communities in Bangladesh have been practicing their religion completely independently. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina made the remarks in a message issued on Friday on the occasion of Saraswati Puja.

Expressing heartfelt greetings and congratulations to all members of the Hindu community, the Prime Minister said Bangladesh is a country of communal harmony. People of all religions, irrespective of race, religion and caste, have been living together in harmony in this land for thousands of years.

She said Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman had ensured equal rights to people of all religions and castes in the constitution. Following his footsteps, during the Awami League government, people of all religions and communities in Bangladesh have been practicing their respective religions independently.

Mentioning that 'now religion is one's own, but festivals are for everyone', the Prime Minister said, "We celebrate the festivals of all religions with joy. We will not allow anyone to destroy our communal harmony. In the coming days, the communal harmony of all religions will be even stronger."

On the occasion of Saraswati Puja, the Prime Minister called upon all members of the Hindu community to devote themselves to the advancement of the country by acquiring knowledge, and asked to worship goddess Saraswati following hygiene rules.

Inspired by the spirit of the Great War of Liberation, the Prime Minister called upon all to unite and build the 'Golden Bangladesh' of the dream of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the greatest Bengali of all time and father of the nation, keeping the secular spirit intact.
