PM Hasina inaugurates Amar Ekushey Book Fair

Dhaka, February 15: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has inaugurated 'Amar Ekushey Book Fair-2022' this afternoon. The Prime Minister inaugurated the virtual fair by connecting to the fair premises of Bangla Academy in the capital through video conferencing from Ganobhaban. Besides inaugurating the fair, the Prime Minister presented Bangla Academy Sahitya Puraskar-2021. This time 15 eminent writers, poets and literary figures won the Bangla Academy Literary Award.

Referring to the 'Book Fair as the Fair of the Life of Bengalis', the Prime Minister said, 'Book Fair is not just a book fair, it is a gathering of all.'

The main theme of this year's Amar Ekushey Book Fair-2022 is 'Birth Centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and Golden Jubilee of Independence'. State Minister for Culture KM Khalid was the special guest at the inaugural function presided over by Selina Hossain, President of Bangla Academy.

State Minister for Culture KM Khalid handed over the 'Bangla Academy Literary Award-2021' to the winners on behalf of the Prime Minister. Although the book fair is scheduled to start from the 1st of February, due to the coronavirus situation, the coveted Amar Ekushey Book Fair is starting in the middle of the month.

The book fair will be open daily from 2pm to 9pm except holidays. No one will be able to enter the fair again after 8 pm. The book fair will be held on holidays from 11 am to 9 pm. Besides, the great Ekushey February fair will start from 8 am to 9 pm.

According to the concerned sources, the book fair is being held in the premises of Bangla Academy and the historical Suhrawardy Udyan in an area of ​​about 6 lakh square feet. A total of 142 outlets have been allotted to 102 institutions in the academy premises including 35 pavilions and 632 units have been allotted to 432 institutions in the Suhrawardy Udyan section and a total of 534 institutions have been allotted 776 units.

Bangla Academy Literary Award:

The award winners are: Asad Mannan, Bimal Guha (poetry); Jharna Rahman, Biswajit Chowdhury (speech literature); Hossain Uddin Hossain (essay / research); Aminur Rahman, Rafiq-um-Munir Chowdhury (translation); Sadhana Ahmed (drama); Rafiqur Rashid (Children's Literature); Panna Kaiser (Liberation War Research); Harun-ur-Rashid (Research on Bangabandhu); Shubhagat Chowdhury (Science Fiction / Environmental Science), Sufia Khatun, Haider Akbar Khan Rono (Autobiography / Travelogue) and Aminur Rahman Sultan (Folklore).
