Own Correspondent, Dhaka, June 18: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has sent 1,000 kilograms of 'Amrapali' mangoes as gift to Indian President Ram Nath Kovind and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

A senior diplomat at the Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi told state news agency BSS on Friday that "Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has sent these mangoes to Indian President Ram Nath Kovind and Prime Minister Narendra Modi as a sign of close friendship and goodwill."

"We have sent to these mangoes to two dignitaries through the 'Diplomatic Channel' (Ministry of External Affairs of India)," he said. "Last year, the Prime Minister of Bangladesh sent 2,000 kilograms of 'Haribhanga' mangoes to the President and Prime Minister of India."

‘Amrapali’ is a hybrid variety of mango, which grows mainly in Rajshahi region of Bangladesh. It is very popular in Bangladesh for its taste and juicy nature.
