Dhaka, August 18: There have been three cases of clashes between police and BNP leaders and vandalism of vehicles at Chandrima Uddan in the capital. The police have filed one case and the Metrorail authorities have filed two cases. Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Officer-in-Charge (OC) Jane Alam Munshi said on Wednesday (August 18) that police filed a case on Tuesday (August 17) night. Then today (August 18) Metrorail authorities filed two more cases.

He said several officials and police, including the DC and Ami of the DMP's Tejgaon division, were injured in a clash with BNP leaders and activists at Chandrima Uddan. More than 40 leaders and activists have been arrested in these three cases. Hundreds of BNP leaders and activists have also been made unidentified accused.

It may be mentioned that the leaders and workers of the newly formed committee of Dhaka Metropolitan North and South BNP had a program to pay homage to the grave of BNP founder Ziaur Rahman. BNP leaders and activists started gathering in small processions from different parts of the capital on the east side of Chandrima Uddan around 10 am on Tuesday.

They then tried to enter the park but were stopped by members of the police present. Police said they were not allowed inside. When the BNP leaders and activists tried to enter by force, clashes broke out between the two sides. Police then charged tear gas, rubber bullets and batons to disperse the leaders and activists. On the other hand, BNP leaders and activists also started throwing bricks at the police.

The police chased and clashed with the BNP leaders and activists. At least 20 people, including police and BNP leaders and activists, were injured in the incident.
