Dhaka, Jan 4: The six-day Police Week-2023 started with a colourful event under the theme "Bangabandhu's Bangladesh police are on the side of the people". Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated Police Week with the annual Police Parade at Rajarbagh Police Lines Ground on Tuesday (January 3) morning. When the Prime Minister came to the Rajarbagh Police Lines ground at 10 am, she was welcomed by Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal and Inspector General of Police (AGP) Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun.

The policemen gave her a guard of honour. The Prime Minister then visited the parade in an open jeep and took salute from the parade of various units. After the greeting, she participated in the welfare parade at noon. Home Minister, IGP and senior police officers were present there.

In previous years, a number of demands were presented to the Prime Minister by the police on this day, but this time no direct demands were brought forward considering the global situation, which is believed to have set a new precedent for this year's police week.

Several senior officers who participated in the welfare parade said that many of the demands raised earlier have been met. The rest are also on the way to be filled in stages. For this reason, no such demands have been presented directly to the Prime Minister this time. However, in her speech at the welfare parade, the Prime Minister directed the policemen to keep the law and order situation under control in view of the 12th national election.

Interior Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal and IGP Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun addressed the welfare parade.

After that, the Prime Minister addressed the present policemen and said that in view of the 12th national election, the leaders and activists of various political parties against the government and terrorist groups can create a chaotic situation. So the election-centric law and order situation should be under control. The law and order situation should not deteriorate. In this case, the head of government advised the police to be more responsible.

The Prime Minister ordered to take immediate action in case of any attack on the police or any attempt to create a disorderly situation. He has also given instructions to ensure that there is no damage to the state and people's resources.

Besides, the head of government gave suggestions and directions to acquire technical knowledge in keeping with the times, become technology dependent and make the police more people-friendly. She also praised the police for maintaining the law and order situation with less manpower compared to the demands.
