Polling environment good so far: CEC

Own Correspondent, Dhaka, 27 December 2023: Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Habibul Awal commented that polling environment in the country is good so far.

He said, "The contesting candidates have expressed their doubts about the polling. We have said that polling agents will stand before polling in every center to see if the ballot boxes are empty. They will be present till the end of the polls till the counting and announcement of the votes to ensure that the counting is correct. Or not. If the counting is found to be done correctly in all the centres, then the election will be free, fair and impartial."

The EC held discussions with Chittagong divisional level law and order forces regarding the 12th national parliament election at Chittagong Teachers Training Institute Auditorium on Tuesday. Later the chief election commissioner said these things to the journalists. Earlier, the CEC exchanged views with the rival candidates at the city's 16th LGED auditorium at 10 am. Later, at 12 noon, he exchanged views with the officials of the law enforcement department of the PTI auditorium.

The Chief Election Commissioner said, "If there is any muscle power during the polling, then if we are informed, we will stop the polling in those polling stations. We have tried to reassure the contesting candidates, many have been convinced, some may not be convinced. On behalf of the Election Commission, we I would like to say that such incidents will not happen in the upcoming 12th National Assembly elections."

The CEC said, "If any muscle power occurs in the polling station, we have told the administration that if the returning officers are informed and the presiding officer is told, he will immediately stop the polling. If he does not, the returning officer, if he is informed, he will stop the polling. If he doesn't do it, then if we are informed, we can also stop the election from Dhaka. That's why I have said that the mistrust that has been created in our polling process should be removed."
