President recites Fateha at Bangabandhu's mausoleum

Own Correspondent, Dhaka, Oct 8: President M Abdul Hamid crossed the Padma Bridge and reached Tungipara on Friday afternoon and visited the mausoleum of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at Tungipara in Gopalganj.

Earlier, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her sister Bangabandhu's youngest daughter Sheikh Rehana, local dignitaries and senior administration officials welcomed the President.

The President recited Fateha along with his elder son Engineer Redwan Ahmed Taufiq MP along with family members and officials of Banga Bhaban and joined the prayers of the Father of the Nation, Bangamata Begum Fazilatunnesa Mujib and other martyrs in the tragic assassination of August 15, 1975.

The President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and their family members prayed for good health and longevity and also wished for continued peace, progress and prosperity of the nation.

Earlier, the President paid his respects by placing a wreath at Bangabandhu's mausoleum. He along with his family members offered wreaths at the mausoleum.

After laying a wreath there, the President stood in silence for a moment to pay deep respect to the memory of the architect of freedom, the Father of the Nation along with most of his family members were brutally killed on the fateful night of August 15, 1975, by some errant army personnel.

The President's motorcade crossed the Padma Bridge and reached Tungipara by road at 4.35 pm. This is the first time the President crossed the Padma Bridge since its inauguration.
