Own correspondent, Dhaka, 8 August 2023: The government is bringing the Cyber Security Act to replace the Digital Security Act. However, cases under the previous law are being considered to be settled under the new law. Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Anisul Huq said that the punishment has been reduced in the new law, the cases of crimes of the previous law will be tried to be settled under the new law.

The Law Minister said this in response to questions from journalists after a meeting with the UN Resident Coordinator in Bangladesh, Gwen Lewis, at the Secretariat on Tuesday.

The Attorney General said that the cases under the Digital Security Act will continue. When the attention was drawn to this matter, the law minister said, "We will think about them. The crimes committed under the old law can be punished by the court under the old law. But we will think about it. Since many parts have been reduced in this law, that reduction is the responsibility of the government." And the objective of the Legislature. We will try to implement that reduction."

The government has renamed the controversial Digital Security Act of 2018 as the 'Cyber Security Act, 2023'. For this reason, the Cabinet gave in-principle approval to the draft Cyber Security Act on Monday. Changes have been made in various sections of the law.
