Dhaka, April 17: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina called upon the country's clerics, ulema and khatibs to speak out against militancy, drugs, corruption and violence against women while delivering sermons in mosques. She said, "People of the country respect scholars, ulema, khatib and imams. So your talk or conversation is very important to them."

The Prime Minister said this while inaugurating 50 model madrasas and Islamic cultural centers across the country in the fourth phase, connected virtually from his official residence Ganabhaban on Monday.

She said, "If you talk more about eradicating violence against women, militancy, spreading false rumours, inhumane treatment of domestic workers and corruption during mosque sermons, people will accept it."

Sheikh Hasina especially emphasized the need to discuss these issues in the khutba before Friday prayers.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated 50 more model mosques and Islamic cultural centers across the country. She inaugurated these mosques and Islamic cultural centers in the fourth phase by connecting virtually from his official residence Ganabhaban. Along with these new mosques, the Prime Minister has so far inaugurated 200 mosques out of 564 to be built at a cost of Tk 9,435 crore across the country.

Before this, he inaugurated 50 mosques in the first phase on June 10, 2021, 50 more mosques in the second phase on January 16 this year and 50 more mosques in the third phase on March 16. The construction of the remaining mosques and the Islamic Cultural Center is scheduled to be completed by June 2024.

State Minister for Religion Md Faridul Haque Khan and Ministry Secretary Kazi Enamul Hasan spoke on the occasion. Prime Minister's Principal Secretary Md. Tofazzal Hossain Mia presided over the program.

Tungipara upazila of Gopalganj district and Biswanath upazila of Sylhet district were included in the event and local members of parliament, public representatives, leaders of political parties, government officials, clerics and common people were present at the time.

A video documentary on Model Mosque and Islamic Cultural Center was screened on the occasion. These model mosques and Islamic cultural centers have separate areas for ablution and prayers with air conditioning.

Besides, registration and training system for Hajj pilgrims, Imam training center, research center and Islamic library, autism corner, pre-burial ceremony, car parking facility, Heefzkhana, pre-primary education and Quran education system, Islamic cultural activities and conference center for calling to Islam, There will be accommodation facilities for domestic and foreign guests including Islamic book selling center, mosque.
