Prime Minister Hasina inaugurates Agargaon-Motijheel section of the Metrorail

Own Correspondent, Dhaka, November 5, 2023: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the Agargaon-Motijheel section of the Metrorail on Saturday, November 4 at around 2:30 pm. Passengers can travel from Uttara to Motijheel by metro rail from Sunday. Initially, three stations will be operational in the Agargaon-Motijheel section. The stations are - Motijheel, Secretariat and Farmgate.

Trains operating from 7:30 am to 11:30 pm will run from Uttara Uttar station to Motijheel in both directions. From 11:30 am the next trains will run only from Uttara to Agargaon. No train will run till Motijheel during this time. There are a total of 17 stations on the 21.26 km metro rail from Diabari depot in Uttara to Kamalapur. The stations are- Uttara North, Uttara Centre, Uttara Dakshin, Pallabi, Mirpur 11, Mirpur 10, Kazipara, Sheorapara, Agargaon, Vijay Sarani, Farmgate, Karwan Bazar, Shahbagh, Dhaka University, Secretariat, Motijheel and Kamalapur.

Uttara to Agargaon section of Bangladesh's first Metrorail (MRT Line-6) was launched in December last year. The Bangladesh government is implementing the fast track project of constructing 21.26 km elevated metro rail from Uttara to Kamalapur at a cost of Tk 33 thousand 472 crore.

Later, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina left for Motijheel from Agargaon in the capital by metro rail. Earlier he used to buy metro rail ticket from automatic ticket machine at Agargaon station. The Prime Minister traveled in this electric high-speed vehicle around 2:41 pm on Saturday.

It is known that the entire metro rail will be opened for public traffic from Sunday. First, the metro rail movement of this section will start with the opening of three stations. The stations are - Motijheel, Bangladesh Secretariat and Farmgate.

The estimated cost (second revision) of this rapid transit system (MRT Line-6) is Tk 33 thousand 417 crore 99 lakhs. Out of which the Government of Bangladesh has given Tk 13 thousand 753 crore 52 lakh and Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) has given a loan of Tk 19 thousand 718 crore 47 lakh on easy terms.
