Prime Minister orders to reduce duty on oil-sugar-dates-rice

Dhaka, Jan 30: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has ordered to reduce the duty on edible oil, sugar, dates and rice on the occasion of upcoming Ramadan.

She gave this order at the Cabinet meeting held at the Prime Minister's Office on Monday (January 29). Cabinet Secretary Mahbub Hossain gave this information to the journalists after the meeting.

The Cabinet Secretary said that after the elections, the Prime Minister gave special importance to controlling commodity prices and asked the concerned ministers to work on it based on coordination. Learned the latest situation from the ministers on Monday, what the ministers have done and shared their experience. Then the Prime Minister gave specific instructions.

He said that the PM has directed the NBR to reduce the duty rates of the four products that are required during Ramadan, especially dates, edible oil, sugar and rice. They are working on it now. The amount to be reduced will be calculated by NBR, so that the price pressure on the people is less.

The Cabinet Secretary said that the Prime Minister has given instructions that there should be no shortfall in supply and demand in the market. The Prime Minister has been assured in this regard by the concerned ministry. LC open rates and food stocks are now much higher than this time last year, the data presented.

The Cabinet Secretary said that the Prime Minister expressed satisfaction with the Ministers' reply.

He said that the Prime Minister gave instructions after hearing everything. She asked to continue the rest of the work as it is in the field. So that the supply is not interrupted in any way, the LC is opened, so that no one can do any manipulation.
