Dhaka, November 3: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has paid tribute to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and his family members who were martyred on the night of August 15, 1975 and four national leaders who were killed while incarcerated in Dhaka Central Jail on November 3 at the capital's Banani Cemetery on Jail Killing Day.

On Thursday (November 3) at 7:30 in the morning, the head of government paid her respects by going to the Banani cemetery and offering a wreath. She stood silently for a while. Awami League leaders and activists from different levels were with her.

The Prime Minister paid homage to the portrait of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at 32 Dhanmondi at 7 am. The Prime Minister later visited the Banani graveyard and paid her respects to the martyrs of the massacres of 15 August and 3 November 1975.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina paid floral tributes at the tombs of national leaders Syed Nazrul Islam, Tajuddin Ahmed and Captain M Mansoor Ali in Banani. Another national leader AHM Kamaruzzaman's tomb is in Rajshahi.

On November 3, 1975, that is, just two and a half months after Bangabandhu's family was killed, four national leaders who were political comrades of Bangabandhu and who led the liberation war on his behalf were killed while incarcerated in Dhaka Central Jail. Since then, November 3 is celebrated as Jail Killing Day.

The four national leaders were Syed Nazrul Islam, the first interim president of Bangladesh, Prime Minister Tajuddin Ahmad, cabinet members Captain M Mansoor Ali and AHM Kamaruzzaman. The four national leaders were sent to Central Jail after the brutal killings on August 15.

Various organizations including the ruling party Awami League will remember this dark chapter in the history of the country by showing due respect to these four national leaders who were close associates of Bangabandhu.

President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina gave messages on the occasion. Besides, various political and social organizations including Awami League have undertaken various programs.
