Dhaka, July 29: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has promised to build a law university to improve the skills of students studying law in the country and ensure world-class service in the legal profession.

She made this promise in her speech at the inauguration of the 'Bangabandhu Memorial Pillar' built in memory of Bangabandhu at the Bangladesh Supreme Court on Friday (July 28).

On this day, the Prime Minister laid the foundation stone of the record room building of the Supreme Court. During the exhibition, the Supreme Court during the Liberation War, the father of the nation and information on various issues were exhibited. In the President's speech on the occasion, the Chief Justice raised the demand for lawyers' buildings in the Law University and the Supreme Court. At that time, the Prime Minister said, "I ordered to establish a law university. The Law Minister is here, I would say, urgent action is needed on this matter. We will do it. Bangladesh has now risen to international level. That's why we will make law university so that they (people of legal profession) can become efficient and provide world class services, I promise."

She said, "I can build the lawyer building, but not now. But I will do it again if I come to the government. At the moment there is an economic recession all over the world. Being thrifty, thrifty in every way. Still fulfilling people's needs."

That time the emotional Prime Minister said, "This is a great achievement for me as the daughter of Bangabandhu, not as the Prime Minister. You have erected this memorial pillar showing respect to the memory of Bangabandhu. I was invited here today. The next generation will know his (Bangabandhu) history from this. At one time commemoration of the father of the nation was also prohibited. We have paved that way. It will be written in golden letters in the history of Bangladesh."

Chief Justice Hasan Foez Siddique presided over the inauguration of the memorial. Appellate Division Justice Obaidul Hasan delivered the welcome speech.

This memorial has been constructed to commemorate the place where the Father of the Nation stood and addressed the Supreme Court in 1972. The memorial presents a mural of the Father of the Nation signing the Constitution and speaking in the Supreme Court premises. There is also a list of names of 69 lawyers who were martyred in the Great War of Liberation.
