Dhaka, July 15: The work of rail connection project on Padma Bridge is starting this month. Railway Minister Nurul Islam Sujan expressed this optimism. He said a major obstacle was the work on the bridge.

"We have a meeting with the bridge authority tomorrow, (Saturday). Hoping to get permission to work on the bridge sometime this month or this week," he said.

The Railway Minister visited the Padma Bridge Rail Link Project at Mawa in Munshiganj on Friday (July 15) afternoon and told reporters all these things.

He said, "The overall progress of the Dhaka-Bhanga-Jesore rail link project has progressed by 61 percent. The project will be completed on June 30, 2024. It is planned to carry out the works in three phases to implement the project on time. In that plan, one section is from Dhaka to Mawa, one section is from Mawa to Bhanga and another section is from Bhanga to Jessore."

He also said that the work from Dhaka to Mawa has progressed 64.08 percent, from Mawa to Bhanga 80.02 percent, from Bhanga to Jessore 91 percent. There are plans to connect the railway line from Dhaka to Bhanga with the Padma bridge in June 2023.

Meanwhile, Major General FM Zahid Hossain, chief coordinator of the construction supervision consultant of the Padma multi-purpose bridge and rail link project, said in the press briefing, "It will take six months to start the work of the rail link project on the Padma bridge. At this time we will monitor whether there is any effect on the vibration (vehicle movement on the road) or not. An expert panel has been appointed for this. According to the bridge authority, there should be no effect of vibration as per the design. We will test whether there is any effect."
