Dhaka, April 20: At the beginning of Boishakh, the violence of Kalbaishakhi has spread over Naogaon. It has been raining with strong winds. On Tuesday (April 19) at 3 pm and on Wednesday (April 20) at 6 am there were two storms and rains over the district. Although the loss of Eriboro rice, it has been beneficial for mango.

The wind lasted for about half an hour. It started raining after a severe storm. Mangoes have been blessed despite the loss of paddy and vegetable crops due to storms and rains.

Due to the favorable weather, the planting of Eriboro was good this time. Paddy was good from the beginning in the field. Rice has also started ripening in some fields. Although the storm has damaged the ripe and semi-ripe paddy, it has benefited the paddy that is now coming out. Although the threshing of paddy is scheduled to start by next week, it will be a bit late now. In the rain, water has accumulated in the low lands of the field. Paddy farmers have suffered a lot due to lying on the paddy land.

Meanwhile, rain is a curse for paddy but a blessing for mango. Mango farmer Amanullah Aman said, "I have leased a mango orchard of about 40 bighas of land." Where there are trees of Amrapali, Fazli and Gopalbhog varieties. The tree had a lot of mango pods. But due to lack of rain, the soil was depleted and the cocoons were falling off. To protect the cocoon, water had to be sprayed on the tree with the help of shallow machine. It would have cost extra. However, the sudden rains have been beneficial for mango farmers. Juice has accumulated in the soil. Now the cost will come down a lot. Even if some cocoons fall in the storm, there is no problem, the benefits have been more.

Shamsul Wadud, deputy director of the Naogaon District Agriculture Extension Department, said the extent of the damage had not yet been determined. However, despite the loss of paddy in the rains, mangoes have been beneficial. Due to the storm, the semi-ripe paddy is lying on the ground. However, being ripe and semi-ripe rice will not be a big loss.

Mizanur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Badalgachhi Upazila Agricultural Meteorological Observatory in Naogaon, said the storm had blown at a speed of 60 kmph over Badalgachhi at 3pm and twice at 6am on Wednesday. At the same time 38.5 mm rainfall has been recorded.
