Dhaka, February 16: Production of Rampal coal-based thermal power plant has resumed. After 11:00 pm on Wednesday (February 15), the electricity generated is supplied to the national grid.

DGM of Rampal thermal power plant Anwarul Azim said on Thursday morning that the production of Rampal thermal power plant started again shortly after 11 pm on Wednesday. Before this, a continuous startup process took place for several days. After the completion of various technical processes, the thermal power plant was commissioned on Wednesday night as well as the electricity produced as per the demand was also supplied to the national grid.

Anwarul Azim said that 30 to 33 thousand metric tons of coal is stored in the shed of this center till Thursday afternoon. The power plant requires four and a half to five thousand metric tons of coal per day at full load. A ship with 50-51 thousand tons of coal from Indonesia is scheduled to arrive in the fairway of Mongla Port by February 18 while the thermal power plant is running with stockpiled coal.

Rampal thermal power plant was shut down on January 14 due to coal shortage. Then on February 8, after the arrival of 33 thousand metric tons of coal from Indonesia, the energy crisis was partially resolved.

Originally, the first unit of 660 MW out of 1,320 MW of Rampal thermal power plant was commissioned on a trial basis last August. Then, when fully operational in December, the generated electricity starts supplying to the national grid. And the remaining 660 MW second unit is scheduled to go into production next June-July.
