Road accident kills seven in Feni and Tangail districts

Dhaka, May 19: Seven people were killed and at least one was injured in separate road accidents in Feni and Tangail districts.

Four passengers of a CNG-powered autorickshaw were killed when a pick-up truck hit them at Bariapul in Shubhpur union of Chhagalnaiya upazila in Feni district around 12 noon on Wednesday (May 19), police said.

The deceased were identified as Bibi Hajera, wife of Abdul Gofran of Chandpur village under Chhagalnaiya upazila, Arif, son of Enamul Haque of Katagang village under Kerhat union of Jorarganj police station and Nurul Islam, son of Darbesh Ali of Amtali village under Sakhipur police station of Tangail district. The identity of the other victim was not known.

Witnesses said the CNG-powered autorickshaw with the passengers was coming from Chittagong's Zorarganj police station to Chagalnaiya. On reaching Bariapul, a pickup pushed CNGT from behind. Four people died on the spot.

Meanwhile, a covered van parked at Mirzapur in Tangail was hit by a microbus, killing three people, including two brothers. Another was injured at the time. The accident took place in Pakulla area of ​​Dhaka-Tangail highway upazila on Wednesday (May 19) morning.

The deceased were identified as Golam Mandal Shamim, 30, son of Emdadul Haque of Tiari village in Akkelpur upazila of Joypurhat district, his brother Sourav Mia, 25, and the driver of the microbus. However, the identity of the driver was not found. Shamim's wife Mim Akhter was injured.

Mirzapur Fire Service Substation Officer Ahmed Hossain told Dhaka Post that a Dhaka-bound microbus reached the Pakulla bus stand area on the highway and pushed the covered van standing there. The microbus is twisted. Two brothers, including the driver of the microbus, died on the spot.

Mim Akhter, wife of the deceased Shamim, was seriously injured.
