Russia Russia strongly criticizes US interference in Bangladesh’s internal affairs
Dhaka, Nov 23: Russia has strongly criticised the unwarranted hyperactive role of US Ambassador to Dhaka Peter Haas and his brazen interference in Bangladesh’s internal affairs.
During a briefing on Wednesday (Nov 22), Russia’s Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Maria Zakharova said, “At the end of October, US Ambassador to Bangladesh Peter Haas met with a member of the local opposition to discuss plans for organising anti-government rallies."
“Such actions amount to nothing less than gross interference in internal affairs,” she added.
Moscow said that the US and its allies are influencing the internal political process of Bangladesh under the guise of ensuring that elections in Bangladesh are transparent and inclusive.
Maria Zakharova said that Moscow has repeatedly exposed the efforts of the US and its allies.
The United States has built a narrative around ‘free and fair’ election in Bangladesh. Under this pretext, it announced a visa policy in May and has been repeating the same phrases. It says that Washington does not favour any particular political party in Bangladesh but the ground reality looks different.
Earlier this month, the US reportedly interfered in Bangladesh’s politics by sending letters to the leading political parties calling for unconditional dialogue.
The US reportedly has a long history of interfering in Bangladesh's internal matters in any way it can.
