The Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Home Affairs has proposed a sedition case against Bangladeshi nationals involved in spreading false information against the state through any social media including Facebook. It has been proposed to take action against those involved in this work in the country and abroad.

Discussing the issue at a meeting on Wednesday (February 10th) afternoon, committee members said those involved in propaganda could not be spared in any way. Necessary steps have to be taken to bring them under the law.

The committee was chaired by Md. Shamsul Haque Tuku. Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, Md Afsarul Amin, Md Habibur Rahman, Shamsul Alam Dudu, Pir Fazlur Rahman, Nur Mohammad, Sultan Mohammad Mansur Ahmed and Begum Rumana Ali and other officials were also present at the meeting.

According to committee sources, the meeting presented and discussed the ongoing Covid-19 situation and the current situation in the country and the overall activities of the Department of Public Security, Security and Services under the Ministry of Home Affairs and other agencies. In addition, a report was presented on the overall activities of the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY), which was set up in 1971 to investigate crimes against humanity.

The meeting termed the drug addicts as 'special offenders' and recommended taking necessary steps in consultation with the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs so that they could not get bail easily. It has also been recommended to give a letter to every deputy commissioner from the home ministry to give priority to the members of parliament in allocating firearms.
