Dhaka, November 3: Awami League general secretary Obaidul Quader said the seeds of communalism were sown in the country by killing the national leader after Bangabandhu. He said this after paying homage to the three national leaders at Banani in the capital on Wednesday.

Obaidul Quader said the main challenge now is to eradicate extremist communalism. All democratic, patriotic and non-communal forces must unite to eradicate the violent communal evil.

After the assassination of Bangabandhu and his family in 1975, four of his close associates- Syed Nazrul Islam, Tajuddin Ahmed, M Mansur Ali and AHM Kamruzzaman- were killed in jail on November 3.

November 3 is a scandalous day in the history of Bangladesh. The day of killing of four national leaders in jails is being observed as 'Jail Killing Day'.

On the occasion of the day, senior leaders of the party led by General Secretary of Awami League Obaidul Quader paid their respects with flowers at the graves of Syed Nazrul Islam, Tajuddin Ahmed and M Mansur Ali at Banani Cemetery at 9:00 am on Wednesday. Tributes were also paid to Kamaruzzaman's grave in Rajshahi.

Apart from paying their respects, the leaders and activists also took part in Fateha recitation, Milad and munajat.
