Dhaka, February 20: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has said that her government will develop Dhaka as a smart city. She said this after inaugurating the Kalshi flyover and the six-lane road from ECB Square to Mirpur via Kalshi in the capital on Sunday.

Hasina said this after inaugurating the Kalshi flyover and the six-lane road from ECB Square to Mirpur via Kalshi in the capital on Sunday.

The Prime Minister said in a public meeting organized at Kalshi Balur ground on Sunday morning, "We will make Dhaka city a smart city."

She had earlier unveiled the plaque and inaugurated the flyover and the road. She said that the government is taking and implementing various plans keeping in mind the welfare of the people. In the rally, she announced the naming of Kalshi flyover after Harun Mollah because of his glorious contribution to the liberation war and all democratic and progressive movements of the country.

The Prime Minister said, "Bangladesh is a country full of biodiversity and beautiful greenery. We will build this country filled with the beauty of flowers, fruits and birds in that way. Besides, we will build a smart Bangladesh with modern technology and Dhaka City will also be a smart city. That is our goal. We are taking many steps for that."

The Prime Minister said that we have been able to develop Bangladesh today because we have been in power for a long time. We have given the status of a developing country to a less developed country that was rejected by the father of the nation and we have to move ahead by maintaining this status. Bangladesh of tomorrow will be a developed prosperous smart Bangladesh of 2041.

She said that the main problem of Dhaka city is the lack of good connectivity between its east and west. Her government has prioritized the development of communication systems in this part of the capital.

She said the 2.34 km Kalshi flyover and 3.70 km wide six-lane road from ECB Square will facilitate connectivity to Mirpur, DOHS, Pallabi, Kalshi, Mohakhali, Manikdi, Matikata, Bhashantek, Banani, Uttara and the airport. If the Kalshi flyover and six-lane road are opened after the metro rail, Dhaka's traffic congestion will be reduced a lot.

Regarding the measures taken for the development of Dhaka North City, Sheikh Hasina said that after dividing Dhaka city into two in 2011, 23 projects worth Tk 3,500 crore have been implemented in the last 12 years.

She said that 16 projects worth more than 3 thousand crore rupees have been implemented in Dhaka South City Corporation in the last few years. Under the project, beautification of the capital, development of water supply management, construction and development of footpaths, roads, bridges and flyovers as well as waste management, communication and infrastructure of the capital have been developed.
