Six Hizb ut-Tahrir militants arrested during distribution of leaflets

Dhaka, October 17: The Anti-Terrorism Unit (ATU) has arrested six members of the banned militant group Hizb ut-Tahrir while distributing leaflets for an online conference.

They were arrested on Friday (October 16th) from the Narda, Bhatara and Bashundhara residential areas of the capital.

On the other hand, ATU has arrested an active member of Ansarullah Bangla Team (ABT).

The arrested are- Md. Sohail (29), Nur Mohammad alias Arun alias Nur (30), Ibrahim Khalil Ullah (21), Arnab Hasan (21), Saifur Rahman Babar (30) and Nur Mohammad Shakil (26).

During the arrest, 26 posters of the online conference, including nine mobile phones, were seized from them.

The information was given in a message signed by Superintendent of Police (SP) Mohammad Aslam Khan of the Media Wing of the Anti-Terrorism Unit.

The arrested members had been conducting various activities including anti-state conspiracies for a long time with the aim of establishing a caliphate state.

In another operation, on Thursday (October 15) at around 10:30 pm, Md. Sohail Rana alias Saidul Islam Sohel (26), an active member of Ansarullah Bangla team was arrested.

Various extremist and provocative content was recovered from him at that time.

Two separate cases have been filed against the arrestees at Bhatara Police Station and Darussalam Police Station under the Anti-Terrorism Act.
