Own Correspondent, Dhaka, 15 March 2024: The government has approved the setting up of 300 MW solar power plants in Khulna, Moulvibazar and Rajbari districts. If electricity is purchased on the basis of 'no electricity, no payment' for a period of 20 years, the total cost will be Tk 10 thousand 612 crores and 80 lakhs.

Approval was given in this regard at the cabinet committee meeting on government procurement held on Thursday under the chairmanship of Finance Minister Abul Hasan Mahmud Ali. At the end of the meeting, the Secretary of Coordination and Reforms of the Cabinet Division Md. Mahmudul Hossain Khan informed the journalists about the decision of the meeting.

He said that Bangladesh Electricity Development Board (BUBO) has approved the establishment of 100 MW (AC) solar power plant in Rupsa Upazila of Khulna district. The agreement between Energon Renewables (BD) and PWR has been approved jointly on 'no electricity, no payment' basis for setting up a 100 MW solar power plant for a period of 20 years. If electricity is purchased on tariff basis, the company will have to pay approximately 3 thousand 537 crores 60 lakhs as 10.9174 taka per kilowatt hour for a period of 20 years.

Besides, the Bangladesh Power Development Board has approved the establishment of 100 MW (AC) solar power plant in Rajnagar Upazila of Moulvibazar district. The agreement of Consortium of Thien Vu Vietnam New Energy Joint Stock Co. and Dream Finder Limited has been approved for setting up a 100 MW solar power plant for a period of 20 years on a no-electricity, no-payment basis. If electricity is purchased on the basis of tariff, the said company will have to pay approximately 3 thousand 537 crore 60 lakhs as 10.92 taka per kilowatt hour for a period of 20 years.
