Dhaka, April 6: The special session of the National Parliament has started. On Thursday (April 6) at 11 o'clock, the meeting of the parliament started under the chairmanship of Speaker Dr. Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury. This special session has started on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the National Parliament. Prime Minister and Parliament Leader Sheikh Hasina attended the session.

On March 21, President Md. Abdul Hamid convened this special session under the power given in Clause (1) of Article 72 of the Constitution. This is the 22nd session of the 11th National Parliament. Before this, a meeting of the working advisory committee of the parliament was held at 10 am. At the beginning of the session, the speaker highlighted the significance of the special session. After that the presidium was nominated. Condolences were later accepted.

The members of the presidium are - HN Ashiqur Rahman, Asaduzzaman Noor, Maqbul Hossain, Kazi Firoz Rashid and Kaniz Fatema Ahmed. After that, the Speaker raised a condolence motion in the Parliament. After a minute of silence, prayers are offered. State Minister for Religion Faridul Haque Khan led the prayers.

On the first day of the session, normal activities will continue, but the second day will begin on Friday, the special session. Parliament meeting will be held at 3 pm that day. President Md. Abdul Hamid will deliver a memorial speech in the meeting. This is the outgoing President's last speech in Parliament. On April 23, Abdul Hamid's two consecutive terms as president will end.

The day after the President's speech, that is, the third day of the session, the meeting of the Parliament will begin on Saturday morning. In that meeting, Parliament Leader Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will raise a general resolution under Rule 147 on the occasion of Parliament's Golden Jubilee. He will then discuss the proposal. Later, the members of parliament will speak on the two-day general resolution. Then it will be accepted.

The National Parliament of Bangladesh started its official journey on 7 April 1973. As such, the Parliament is celebrating its golden jubilee. A special session is being held on this occasion. A number of other programs will be held throughout the year on the occasion of the Golden Jubilee.
