Own Correspondent, Dhaka, Oct 27: Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal said that Bangladesh is on the path of development, taking into account all the ongoing challenges.

He said, "Our goal is to become a developing country by 2026, an upper-middle income country by 2031 and a developed country by 2041. To achieve this, investment in socio-economic and physical infrastructure requires the support of all its development partners, including the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank."

Mustafa Kamal also commented that all developed and developing countries are facing huge challenges at the moment. At the same time, he called for the world economy to return to normal for the sake of humanity.

The Finance Minister made this call at the annual meeting of the Board of Governors of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) on Wednesday (October 26).

He said that the main issue of today's meeting, 'Infrastructure financing in a crisis-prone world', is very timely and significant. The global community, from developed to developing countries, is currently facing huge challenges. Most of which stem from the Russia-Ukraine war, climate change, global warming, etc.

The Finance Minister thanked the AIIB citing the recent budget support and vaccine support provided to Bangladesh by the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank.

He said, "You are aware that under the prudent leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the Bangladesh government has efficiently dealt with the coronavirus pandemic. The economy is returning to its previous consistency with a GDP growth of 7.25 percent in the last financial year."

Meanwhile, the Finance Minister of Bangladesh called upon all the world leaders present and outside the meeting to come forward to ensure the welfare of the entire mankind by returning the world economy to a normal state for the sake of humanity.

Chinese Governor Kun Liu, Ghana Governor Ken Ofori-Atta, India Governor Nirmala Sitharaman, Pakistan Governor Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, Singapore Governor Indrani Raja, Uzbekistan Governor Jamshid Khodzaev and others also spoke at the meeting.
