Dhaka, July 3: At least five people were killed in a head-on collision between an ambulance and a pickup in Tangail’s Kalihati upazila on Saturday morning, reports said.

The accident, which took place around 7:30 am, left five others injured, who are presently undergoing treatment.

Reports quoted police as saying that the pickup crashed into the ambulance on the east side of Bangabandhu Bridge in Hatia area.

The deceased are yet to be identified.

Three ambulance passengers died on the spot, while seven injured were rushed to Tangail General Hospital.

One among them was declared dead on arrival and another person died while undergoing treatment around 11:30 am.

Reports said the victims had boarded the northern district-bound ambulance from Dhaka in the absence of public transports, amid the countrywide hard week-long lockdown.
