The water flow of the river Teesta has suddenly taken the form of rainy season. Water is rushing through the Kaliganj Zero Point in West Chhatnai Union of Dimla Upazila of Nilphamari, which is rapidly crossing the Teesta Barrage and flowing downstream.

The empty condition that was seen in the river a few days ago, seems to have been submerged in the river water in an instant. Irrigation canals have become submerged in water.

Bairali fish is being caught in fishermen's nets in the flooded Teesta. For the last two years, the fishermen on the banks of the Teesta have been in dire straits due to the lack of wild fish in their nets. Irrigation is in progress in 75,000 hectares in 11 upazilas of Nilphamari, Rangpur and Dinajpur districts of Teesta Barrage Command area under current boro cultivation. In this situation, the irrigation canals of the Teesta are suddenly flooded.

The Teesta River Measurement Office in Dalia said on Saturday that about 15,000 cusecs of water was flowing in the upper reaches of the Teesta in two days. Earlier, the water flow was only 1,600 cusecs.

The fish could not be found properly as the river water was declining. The river has been flooded for two days now. Lots of fish are also available.

According to the relevant sources, the water level of Teesta was 49.70 meters on Thursday. The next day, Friday, it increased by 100 cm to 50.60 m. By noon on Saturday, the water level had risen by another 75 cm to 51.35 m. As well as the upstream water continued to rise. The dried up river has regained its life.

Jyoti Prasad Ghosh, Chief Engineer (Uttara Law), Water Development Board, said, "The water level in the Teesta has suddenly risen, which we think is a good thing." He added that the Teesta Irrigation Project has revolutionized agriculture. The Water Development Board has undertaken a special project for the construction of 650 km long secondary and tertiary irrigation canals to bring irrigation water to the grassroots level of 1 lakh 17 thousand hectares of land in the command area of the project. The expenditure has been estimated at Tk 1,465 crore.

Jyoti Prasad Ghosh said that once the project is passed by ECNEC, CC lining will be done in secondary irrigation canals and RCC welding will be given in tertiary canals. This will allow water to reach the land quickly without wasting water.
