The dream of winning the vote by muscle power will not come true: EC

Dhaka, May 31: Election Commissioner (EC) Mohammad Alamgir has said that the election cannot be influenced by using muscle power. He said that if anyone dreams of being elected using muscle power, that dream will not come true. Action will be taken against any negligence of the administration in discharging its election duties. Besides, if the allegation of obstructing another candidate against any candidate is proved, his candidature will be canceled.

He told reporters at noon on Tuesday (May 31) at the Election Commission building in Agargaon.

Earlier, the UP chairman and member candidates of two unions of Hatiyar in Noakhali took position in front of the EC building demanding fair elections at 11am. They complained that local MP (Noakhali-6) Ayesha Ferdous's husband Mohammad Ali could not campaign because of the oppression of the people. They complained to the local administration but did not get any remedy. For this reason, after taking the shroud, he took a stand in front of the EC, demanding a fair voting environment with poison in his hand. Later, Sher-e-Bangla Nagar police dispersed the candidates around 11:45 am.

Asked about this, EC Alamgir said, "I heard it from you (journalists) for the first time. We sent officers, they said. We told them to bring him to me if they had any."

Asked what would be the role of the EC if anyone obstructed the vote, Md. Alamgir said, "Obstruction will not be of any benefit. If we get information from any source that candidates have been barred, voters have been barred or not allowed to submit nomination papers. So the first thing we do, we postpone the schedule. So that if there is any other candidate then he can re-submit the nomination. If this is the case then the candidates are not safe then we give the opportunity to submit their nominations in the surrounding districts or upazilas."

He said that it was the responsibility of the law enforcement agencies to provide security and campaign opportunities to the candidates and voters. We will take action against anyone who neglects his duty. We don't think there will be any benefit in doing this. If voters are prevented from coming on election day, we will also cancel that vote. I don't think those who are intelligent and conscious will do these things.
