Dhaka, April 20: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has said that since the Awami League came to power, the farmers have no more problems because they have taken appropriate action against them. "The price of fertilizer was Tk 90 rupees during the BNP government, today we have brought it down to Tk 12," the Prime Minister said this in a virtual speech on the founding anniversary of Krishak League on Monday (April 19).

Welcoming the farmers, the Prime Minister said, "They produce food by burning in the sun, soaking their heads in the rain. We survive by eating that food. Therefore, they have or support and cooperation at all times. It is our duty to support them."

"We are giving more importance to agriculture in our country," she said. "In order for the sharecroppers to get unsecured loans, we have arranged unsecured loans through Krishi Bank. We are producing improved seeds through research and we are supplying those seeds. We want an agrarian economy to take us forward. Along with the agricultural economy, we have also paid special attention to industry. This is because we are providing all kinds of assistance to the farmers by arranging for the marketing of the products and the export of the products at home and abroad."

Sheikh Hasina said similar incidents took place in Bangladesh after the assassination of Father of the Nation Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and his family in 1975, when illegal occupiers seized power and started playing tricks on the fate of the country's farmers.

"We are mechanizing agriculture and there we are subsidizing over 70 per cent," she said. We are mechanizing agriculture so that our farmers can produce more food. We are making arrangements to deliver every agricultural inputs to the farmers including supply of high quality seeds. At the same time we are subsidizing the electricity used by the farmers for irrigation and we have taken measures to ensure the supply of electricity to the farmers and now we have also started using solar-panels for irrigation.

"We are fixing the fair price and providing assistance to the farmers so that our farmers get a fair price for the crop," he said. There should be food stored in the farmer's warehouse, there should be food in every farmer's house - because those who produce will not get food or their sons and daughters will suffer from food shortage.
