Dhaka, February 4: The government will not increase the prices of agricultural inputs including fertilizers and seeds to continue agricultural production. Agriculture Minister Dr Md Abdur Razzak said this in the opening ceremony of the International Conference on Food and Nutrition Security to achieve Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in SAARC member countries at BRAC CDM Auditorium in Savar near Dhaka on Thursday.

He said that the current government's policy is to increase food production and sustain food security at any cost.

Bangladesh Agricultural Extension Network (BAEN) and India's Participatory Rural Development Initiative Society (PRDIS) jointly organized the three-day conference.

Pointing out that there is a huge gap in the research and extension of the crop, the Agriculture Minister said, Aman has had a bumper crop. A record amount of food is in stock. A variety developed by a researcher or scientist which produces 8 maunds per bigha at the research stage, after expansion, the production is seen at the farmer level is 3-4 maunds per bigha. This huge gap should be reduced.

Abdur Razzak said, among the crops invented by our scientists, there are salt-tolerant varieties. But they take more time to reach the farmers in the field. The reason for this delay must be found.

Pradis Senior Advisor VV Sadamate, Food and Agriculture Organization Special Representative Daniel Gustafson, Bangladesh Representative Robert Simpson, BAEN President Hamidur Rahman, General Secretary Sekander Ali, Organizing Secretary Afzal Hossain Bhuiyan and others spoke at the event.

350 delegates from India, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bhutan and Bangladesh participated in the three-day conference of agricultural extension workers.
