Dhaka, May 22: Rajshahi district BNP convener Abu Saeed Chand (66) has been charged with threatening to kill the Prime Minister. A local Awami League leader named Abul Kalam Azad filed the case at around 12 noon on Monday (May 22).

District Additional Superintendent of Police (Puthia Circle) Rajibul Islam said that a case has been filed against Abu Saeed Chand under the Anti-Terrorism Act. Only one person has been charged in the case. Police are trying to arrest him. Earlier, Rajshahi district BNP convener Abu Saeed Chand threatened to kill Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in a BNP program on May 19. The threatening video went viral on social media.

Meanwhile, the High Court asked whether he was arrested after the incident. A law officer of the state brought the matter to the attention of a dual bench of the High Court on Monday (May 22). The court asked the state to inform the arrest of the person and also sought to know the latest action taken by the police.

It is to be noted that the rally was held in Rajshahi last Friday to protest the government's resignation, stop the disappearance cases and mass arrests, protest the government's corruption and demand 10 points. District BNP convener Abu Saeed Chand threatened to send the Prime Minister to the 'graveyard' from that rally.

He said to the activists, "And we are not among the 27 points - 10 points. One point - Sheikh Hasina must be sent to the graveyard, Sheikh Hasina must be sent to the graveyard. We will do whatever is necessary for Sheikh Hasina's resignation, inshallah."

BNP Standing Committee member and former minister Begum Selima Rahman was the chief guest in the rally presided over by Abu Said Chand and the chief speaker was Chairperson's advisor and former Rasik Mayor Mizanur Rahman Minu. Forest and environment affairs secretary of the party's national executive committee and former Rasik mayor Mosaddek Hossain Bulbul were present as special guests.
