Three million Sinopharm jabs arrive in Dhaka

Dhaka, July 30: Another three million doses of Sinopharm vaccine from China arrived at the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on Thursday (July 29) in the middle of the night on three Biman Bangladesh Airlines flights.

Dr. Shahriar Sajjad, Assistant Director of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) working at the airport confirmed the news.

"The Sinopharm vaccines arrived at 10:15 pm (on Thursday), 1:15 am and 4:15 am (on Friday)," he said.

The first shipment of five lakh doses of the Sinopharm vaccine arrived in Dhaka on May 12, which was a gift from the Chinese government. On May 19, the government approved in principle the direct purchase of the SARS-Cov-2-Vaccine made by China's Sinopharm.

Later, the vaccines reached Dhaka on various dates. The government has started a mass immunization program in the country, the goal is to give a large part of these vaccines.

Earlier on May 8, the World Health Organization approved the emergency use of the vaccine. Then Bangladesh also approved its use.

The first flight of Biman arrived in Dhaka on Thursday night (July 29) with 1 million Sinopharm vaccines. Foreign Ministry sources confirmed the information.
