Own Correspondent, Dhaka, February 5: No one came to collect the bodies of the three terrorists killed in the army firing at Bathipara in Bandarban's Ruma. As a result, those bodies were cremated in the central Marma crematorium by the municipality.

The three terrorists are- Joy Chakma of Bilaichhari in Rangamati, Jhilik Chakma of Barkal and Chamangpru Marma of Niyakshyang Para of Ruma's Paindu Union. After completion of autopsy at Bandarban Sadar Hospital, the bodies were cremated at 4 pm on Friday (February 4).

Police said no relatives had come to collect the bodies of the three terrorists killed in the firing in Bathipara. Authorities later handed over the bodies to Bandarban Municipality as 'unclaimed'. They were cremated in the central Marma crematorium with the help of Anjuman Mofidul.

Bandarban Additional Superintendent of Police, Quddus Farazi, said, "The bodies of the three were kept in front of Ruma Police Station on Thursday and in the morgue of Bandarban Sadar Hospital after autopsy on Friday, but none of their relatives came to collect the bodies. Later, the police arranged for their cremation as 'unclaimed'."

Meanwhile, Army's Chittagong Area Commander (GOC) Major General Saiful Abedin visited the spot on Friday afternoon and held a meeting with all army members at Ruma Cantonment.

At that time, he said, "It is the duty of a soldier to give importance to the interests of the country rather than his own life. The blood of a soldier will never go in vain. No matter how dangerous the situation is, no member of the Bangladesh Army has bowed to the terrorists, and wil never do in the future."

Earlier on Wednesday (February 2) night, terrorists opened fire on an army patrol team at Bathipara in Bandarban's Ruma Upazila. The army also retaliated in self-defense. Habibur Rahman, a senior warrant officer of the army, was killed and Md. Firoz, a soldier, was injured in the firing. Later, the army searched the spot and recovered the bodies of three terrorists. An SMT, three country-made guns and 280 rounds of ammunition were recovered from the spot. The military claimed that the terrorists were members of the JSS (main) group.
