Own Correspondent, Dhaka, 7 August 2023: It has been raining heavily for the past few days in Kuakata, Kalapara, coastal district of Patuakhali. Low income people are suffering. Having to go to work place even in rain in search of livelihood. So they are crowding the umbrella shop. People are venturing outside with umbrella, raincoat or polythene.

According to the information provided by the Meteorological Office, 316 mm of rainfall was recorded till 6 am on Monday. Because of this, various crops have been damaged in different parts of the upazila, the fish cages have sunk, and the income of the low-income people has stopped. As it has been raining for the last four-five days, people are coming out as best they can.

A van driver named Sattar said, we deliver the goods of various shops. But because of the rain, I have been sitting at home for two days. Today, the shopkeepers say they need the goods, so I have come. It's raining a lot, I had to buy an umbrella. The money to buy an umbrella is now an additional expense. There is no end to our suffering.

A shopkeeper named Abul Sukani said, I deal in rice. The shop was closed due to extra rain for two or three days. I came to buy an umbrella today. I will take it to the store. "I sell umbrellas all year round," said Esahak Hawladar, owner of Emon Store in Kuakata. I have sold many umbrellas in the last two days. Now at the last stage. Most of the people coming to buy umbrellas are lower class people.

Meanwhile, tourists coming to Kuakata for two to three days are forced to stay in hotels due to rain. Despite the police prohibiting people from going down to the beach due to bad weather, some tourists are cheering.

Kalapara Upazila Meteorological Officer Md Firoz Mia said that 316 millimeters of rainfall has been recorded in Kalapara in the last 24 hours till 6 am on Monday. 56 mm of rain has been recorded since 6 am. This condition may continue for two to three days.
