Train tickets go to syndicate: RAB

Dhaka, Jan 27: Even after various restrictions and supervision in buying train tickets, black market could not be uprooted. RAB said those responsible for ticket processing and maintenance are involved in this black market syndicate.

The gang collects the tickets by manipulation and sells them to passengers at one and a half to double the price. Apart from this, it would increase three to four times during various holidays including Eid. RAB has arrested 14 members of Uttam and Salim syndicate on the charge of black market of this train ticket. On Thursday night, raids were conducted in Kamalapur and Airport areas of the capital and they were arrested.

At that time, 1,244 seats' tickets, 14 mobile phones and Tk 20,000 taka in cash were recovered from them.

Commander Khandaker Al Moin, director of RAB's law and media wing, gave this information at a press conference at RAB Media Center in Kawran Bazar on Friday. The arrested gang members are, Salim (50), Anwar Hossain alias Kashem (62), Avni Sarkar Sumon (35), Harun Mia (60), Mannan (50), Anwar Hossain alias Dablo (50), Farooq (62), Shahidul Islam Babu (22), Jewel (23), Abdur Rahim (32), Uttam Chandra Das (30), Morshid Mia alias Zakir (45), Abdul Ali (22), and Zobair (25).

According to RAB, two owners of train ticket black market are known as Salim Syndicate and Uttam Syndicate. They get 50 percent of the additional profit of the ticket. The remaining 50 percent goes to the booking staff at the counter, senior officials, Sahaja.com staff and IT experts. With their direct and indirect support, about 500 tickets are going in the hands of the two syndicates every day.
