Dhaka, October 30: Feasibility study and design work has been completed. The construction work of Bangabandhu Railway Bridge is progressing fast. Work on the main part of the bridge is now underway. There will be two lines on this bridge of steel infrastructure. So no train has to wait for crossing. The train will also be able to run at a maximum speed of 120 km. The bridge will also help connect Bangladesh with the Trans-Asian Railway Network in the future. When completed, it will be the longest railway bridge in the country.

According to Bangladesh Railway sources, the Bangabandhu Bridge over the Jamuna River is being constructed 300 meters upstream of the road bridge, which is 4.8 kilometers long.

The largest railway bridge in the country will have a total of 50 piers. The work of 10 peers has already been completed. Work is underway to drive six more pier steel pipe shill pipes (SPSPs). Piling pipes are being installed with the help of cranes and hammers. The pier of the railway bridge will be made of concrete. The upper superstructure will be steel. The piling work of the bridge is underway in the country, while the work of superstructure is underway in Vietnam and Myanmar.

As soon as the work of the pillar is completed, the super structure will be brought from abroad and will be installed. The progress of the infrastructural work of the project is 34 percent and the economic progress is 23 percent.

The deadline for completion of Bangabandhu Railway Bridge is August 2024. The cost of the project has been estimated at Tk 16,700 crore. Bangladesh will get a loan of more than Tk 12,000 crore from Japan International Co-operation or JICA. The rest of the money will be paid by the Bangladesh government. There is no need to increase the cost and time frame of a fast moving project. The concerned people demanded that the work of the project will be completed within the approved cost and time.
