Dhaka Metro Rail Trial run of Agargaon-Motijheel metro rail starts
Dhaka, July 7: Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL) has started the trial run of metro rail from Agargaon to Motijheel in the capital. This is the first of three phases of trial runs.
Awami League General Secretary and Minister of Road Transport and Bridges Obaidul Quader inaugurated the trial run of the metro rail on Friday (July 7) at 4:35 pm. Managing Director (MD) of DMTCL M A N Siddique and other concerned persons were present on the occasion.
In order to avoid any kind of problem on Friday, the Metrorail will operate on this route at midnight on Wednesday (July 5). After completion of the trial run by October 15, the date of the passenger movement will be fixed. The date of the inauguration will be decided subject to the availability of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
According to DMTCL, the first step in the trial run is the proficiency test or performance test. The next step will be 'System Integration Test'. The final stage will be 'trial run' or experimental movement. All these three types of movement are considered as experimental movement. Before the start of the experimental movement, the Metrorail route has to be verified (verification).
Earlier, the engineers divided into several sections and inspected the railway track from Agargaon to Motijheel. At this time, the officials have seen whether there are any obstacles, challenges or technical errors in starting the experimental metro rail.
DMTCL officials say there is no obstruction in the metro rail movement. Verification is a form of formality. The technical committee also formally met and started the trial run. Initially, it was decided to build a metro rail line from Uttara to Motijheel, 20.10 km long. Later it was decided to extend it to Kamalapur. The progress of the Agargaon to Motijheel section is slightly more than 95 percent.
There are seven stations from Agargaon to Motijheel – Bijoy Sarani, Farmgate, Karwan Bazar, Shahbagh, TSC, Press Club and Motijheel. Today, trial run of metro rail has started on this route.
