Two dead as bus catches fire after cylinder blast in Comilla
Dhaka, March 12: At least two people were killed when a cylinder of a passenger bus exploded and caught fire in Comilla. Another 17 passengers were burnt and injured in the stampede. Nine of them have been sent to the burn unit of Dhaka Medical College Hospital for treatment. The fire broke out at 6 pm on Thursday at Gauripur on the Dhaka-Chittagong highway in Comilla's Daudkandi upazila.
Witnesses said a passenger bus heading from Dhaka to Chandpur district suddenly exploded while en route to Dhaka-Chittagong Gauripur. The bus caught fire on the spot.
They claimed that three passengers were killed in the fire.
The local fire service went to the spot and rescued 17 passengers injured and burnt. Nine of them were sent to the burn unit of Dhaka Medical College Hospital for treatment.
However, Acting Superintendent of Police Mollah Mohammad Shahin of Comilla Highway confirmed the information that two passengers were burnt. He said the injured were rescued and sent to various hospitals.
