Two killed in road accident; angry protesters set fire to buses in Bhola

Dhaka, December 7: Two people, including the headmaster of a government primary school, were killed in a bus crash in Bhola. Three more people were injured in the incident, following which, angry protesters blocked the road and set fire to two buses.

The incident took place around 10:30 am on Monday (December 8) in the Ilisha Barrister Kanchari area on the Bhola-Lakshmipur route.

The deceased were identified as Mazharul Islam Jasim, 40, headmaster of Sitaram Government Primary School in Bhola Sadar Upazila and Joy Sikder, 32, of Barisal Mehendiganj Upazila. The injured have been identified as Abul Kalam Bachchu, 50, Tamanna Akhter, 20, and Tumpa Rani, 30.

According to the locals, CNG was coming to Bhola with passengers from Ilisha ferry terminal. At that time the passenger bus was going to Ilisha Ferry Ghat with passengers from Bhola. Later, the bus crushed the CNG from the front in Ilisha Barrister Kanchari area.

Headmaster Mazharul Islam Jasim was killed on the spot. Another person named Joy Sikder died on the way to Bhola Sadar after locals rescued four injured people.

Meanwhile, two people vandalized the road and set fire to the bus involved in the accident. Later, ASI Sujan Majhi of Ilisha Police Investigation Center confirmed that the fire service personnel came and brought the fire under control.

Bhola Model Police Inspector (OC investigation) Md. Arman Hossain confirmed the truth and said that police were deployed at the spot. Currently the situation is calm.
