Dhaka, September 18: The Anti-Terrorism Unit (ATU) of the police has arrested two active members of the banned militant group Ansarullah Bangla Team. The arrested are Md. Kawsar Ahmed alias Milon (30) and Zahid Mostafa (20).

According to the ATU, the detainees were selling extremist books by extremist authors online. Apart from giving various anti-state and anti-government provocative posts using social media, Ansarullah has been recruiting members for the Bangla team. This information was given by the Superintendent of Police (SP) of the Media and Awareness Division of ATU Md. Aslam Khan on Friday (September 17).

He said they were arrested on Thursday (September 16) afternoon on a tip-off in a raid in the Kalibari Mosque area of ​​Chechua Bazar under Muktagachha police station in Mymensingh district. They used to spread extremist books under the guise of running a bookstore in the local Chechua market.

He added that they were selling extremist books online by other extremist writers, including Mufti Jasimuddin Rahmani, head of the banned militant group Ansarullah Bangla Team, from Al-Rehab Publications and the online Ash Shabab publication. Apart from giving various anti-state and anti-government provocative posts using social media, Ansarullah has been recruiting members for the Bangla team.

Hard and soft copies of various extremist books, two smartphones and four SIMs were seized from the arrested. The messenger accounts they used to spread extremist activities and spread books were also seized. A case has been registered against them under the anti-terrorism law at Mymensingh's Muktagachha police station, the police official said.
