Two suspects arrested in the warranted crime against humanity case

Own Correspondent, Dhaka, 22 August 2023: Anti-Terrorism Unit (ATU) of Police has arrested two absconding accused under arrest warrant of International Criminal Tribunal. They were arrested on Monday in Taranipur area of Shyamnagar police station of Satkhira district. The arrested 2 persons are Md. Abdul Aziz alias Aziz Commander (82) and Md. Surat Ali Ghazi (76).

Superintendent of Police (Operations) Mohammad Chanwar Hossain of Media and Awareness Wing of Police ATU informed about their arrest on Tuesday.

He said that on October 27, 1971, more than 10 refugees were caught and killed under the leadership of Razakar Aziz Commander and Razakar Surat Ali at Vetkhali-Jayakhali Kheyaghat. Besides, under their leadership, in October 1971, Surendranath Mandal, son of Bamacharan Mandal of Kalinagar village, captured and killed some Hindus in Dhumghat area. Surendranath Mandal's daughter Tuku Rani Mandal filed a case against Abdul Aziz and Surat Ali in Satkhira Judge Court in 1996. After being arrested in this case, the accused were in jail for a long time. Then they were released on bail by the High Court.

He also said that after the investigation of the International Criminal Tribunal found the truth of the murder, the trial process started. The International Criminal Tribunal-1 issued arrest warrants in their absence. The accused have been living on the run since 2017. They were sent to jail after their arrest on Monday.
